Individual therapy is a process where I meet you where you are at in a space of openness and non-judgement. Together we can be curious and open to explore your unique challenges and work on building your personal strengths to understand and overcome your challenges. I synthesize and use an eclectic combination of many different therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing based on the need of each individual in therapy.
Through my experience of studying, practicing and teaching Zen, I also offered a synergy of individual therapy combined with mindfulness skills coaching to help individuals enhance and find balance in their life.
Therapy is a process of looking back to learn from the past in making sense of the roots of challenges in the present, while life coaching is about establishing a vision/goals and learning skills in the present to move towards a future with more fulfillment and happiness. These two processes can be enhanced by mindfulness skills for self-awareness which fosters growth. Often individuals can synergize all three processes together, or use one at at time at a certain point on their journey to foster personal growth, resilience and personal fulfillment.
No matter what brings you here, I offer to collaborate with you, to support and provide some tools on your journey of healing, transformation and personal growth.
My Training and Background
I earned a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Psychology at York University in Toronto and a Master of Science in Psychotherapy at McMaster University in Hamilton. I learned from well known clinical psychologists and researchers in the field of developmental trauma at York University where I spent three years in the developmental lab of Dr. Pillai-Riddell studying the effects of early childhood trauma on attachment and development (OUCH LAB). I worked as staff writer/researcher for Dr. Robert Muller's "The Trauma and Mental Health Report" at York University for two years exploring the many aspects of trauma on adult development where I wrote articles about the Polyvagal Theory and Spiritual Crisis. While at McMaster University, I trained as a clinician at St.Michael's Homes mental health and addiction treatment center in Toronto where I learned valuable skills in helping clients heal from chronic substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, complex-trauma, grief, loss, complex mental health and behavioural challenges.
I'm open to receive clients for online therapy from Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Distance should not be a barrier to finding better mental health and happiness.
“I was so debilitated by complex-trauma and many years of depression that I didn't leave my home or washed myself for two years, Lotus had changed my life and help me to find a new sense of freedom and confidence in myself. Unlike other therapists I had before who focused on my problems, she focused on my strengths and supported me to stand on my two feet again. Now I'm out doing aqua fitness, driving and walking my dog.”
